That’s great news! I love this series very much and have been rooting for this 🙂 Just bought a bunch of copies of Traitor to hand out to friends like candy.
that is so exciting! this series is one of my favorites of all time and certainly my favorite high fantasy!! baru is near and dear to my heart… even if she likes to break it. if you ever have a special edition set with someone like illumicrate or sell signed copies… i would buy it in a flash ! my dad recently got into the outlander series so i’ve been trying to introduce him to more fantasy, gifting his the first book for christmas!
I love love love this series so much. I’m seriously recommending it all the time in fantasy groups. The more I read other works, the more I appreciate what you’ve done with the Baru novels.
Hope you’re safe and supported in these strange times.
This is wonderful to see. A dear friend put me on to the Baru series, due to a shared love of complex female characters. It’s taken me a while to get through, because of the richness and depth of the story. Every time I turn on the audiobook for an hour or two, I feel like it takes over my brain for the next several days … and sometimes I still need to use it for other things.
It’s a real privilege to feel ‘seen’ in any book – but I think particularly when you have little in common with the characters’ specific circumstances. Everyone feels real, and the consequences of their particular flaws and virtues carry through the narrative.
Hey, just wanted to stop by and thank you for writing The Masquerade Series. I read it in a frenzy during a difficult time for me and it was exactly the story that I needed it in that period. It was such an incredible experience that I can’t even explain it properly. The characters are fascinating and felt like real people. I also felt hopeful after Traitor and I loved to see a character like Baru managing to win a little against a much more powerful enemy. So thank you and I hope that you have a good day!
Thank you, Seth for Baru. Thorough enjoyment of your prose, the world you created and the intensity of your characters. I would like to extend my encouragement as you work on the final volume, in light of the final paragraph of your Acknowledgement. I can’t imagine how ‘deeply draining’ this work has been: please do take the time to step back, find the joy, the voice and the muse you wield so magnificently. We will happily and patiently wait for the result! Cheers, Mark
I’m sorry I never approved this comment, I think I wanted to reply, so here’s a reply — thank you for your kind words! Also thank you to everyone above I did not personally reply to!
I also wanted to say thank you for the series! I just finished Tyrant and was blown away by the way you tied everything together, especially in terms of Baru’s neverending moral dilemmas and her new network of alliances. I can’t wait for the fourth book to see what you do with the Mother of Storms and Svir (whose perspective immediately veers into royal romance and I love that for him) and Baru’s newfound strength. Take your time though, we will wait.
